    This phone number is a scam! I declined the call n my mobile but they left a voice message. A recorded message using a Male, American sounding voice. Didn't identify what organisation they were from. Said a lawsuit had been instituted against me and if I didn't ring back, arrest warrant would be executed against me and I would go to jail (yawn). Naturally I ignored it.

    I had a missed call from this number. When I called the number back, someone with poor English told me he was from the Australian Taxation Office and I was going to be arrested and owed money to the ATO. When I refused to give my personal details out (he was asking for my personal details) and said I would ring the ATO directly, he became agitated and hung up the phone on me.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
