    Yes, I just received a call from an Asian woman from this Accident Ins company asking if there was an accident in the past 2 years. I didn't give any info but I requested a ref number for that call and she gave me one and, as soon as I wrote it down, I knew it was not legitimate. I asked for a phone number in Australia to call and it was 02 8006 7686 and of course it goes to a message bank asking for a return phone number. I, too, have a silent number. How do we stop these people?????

    The same as most people here. An Indian sounding man called 'Chris' claiming to be from 'the' accident insurance agency, about the accident in the 'last couple of years'. I told him I was reporting him for attempting to defraud. What really makes me angry is that my number is silent. Very few people have it so how do these people get it? Perhaps from my telco iPrimus? Why can't these people be reported somewhere? I shudder to think of elderly and vulnerable people being taken in by these scammers.

    I have received two calls from this number wanting to confirm I was involved in an accident where I was not at fault. I told them this was not the case that I was at fault they said I was still intitled to compensation. I said who would pay it given I was at fault he said my insurance company would. I told him there were no injuries and he spoke rudely in Indian and hung up. He rang on my homeline which I do not readily give out. So I am thinking it has to be one of the two insurance companies involved (AAMI for me, NRMA for the other guy) who have onsold my details.

    I got a phone call from this number today at 3:30 an Asian lady.. With no clear English asked about an accident happened in the last 2 years and I thought I have investigated about their business but I guess not... Anyway I told her that I had an accident.. She told me I am entitled for compensation... And when I asked her about from where did they know my number, she told that they have connections with police department.. Anyway another guy came into the conversation and took over... I asked him about the business and their phone no.... He said they are based in Sydney.. They work for 6 companies of lawyers... I excused him to hang up the phone to pick my kids from school.. He promised to call me back in an hour... NOT PLANNING TO ANSWER.. DOES NOT SOUND LEGITIMATE!!!

    Got a call from this number with a female voice at about 5:45pm. When I answered she said "Who is this?" I replied saying that I was the one answering the phone. She then went on to ask who in the family had an accident in the past 3 years. I asked why. And she said that she was calling from "accident investigation blah blah " I said a few choice words and she hung up on me!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
