    Just got 2 voicemail messages (a couple of days apart) saying I need to contact 0280667147 immediately before an arrest warrant is put out on me. I freaked!. It appears from other comments on this (very valuable) website my doubts are confirmed, that this is a fake.

    Just listened to two recordings on the messaging service from 22/7/15 stating that I needed to contact the ATO investigations officer on 0280067147 before a warrant for my arrest was issued. Who should I contact about this?

    Got a computer human voice simulation message saying there were 4 warrants for my arrest for serious tax violations. Somehow I don't think the ATO is really going to do this sort of thing via voice simulated messages! I'd love to know who is behind this.

    My father in his 90's received a message about being in trouble with the taxation department. This caused him to be very worried and anxious and stressed.

    I rang them back - got onto Jack Cooper (FAKE) when I suggested it was a scam he became loud and irate so I hung up.

    These people need to be stopped.

    Don't reply to this number !!!!

    Why is the phone company allowing this number to operate? Have received three calls from a private number with this same number as a return contact number. Checked with the ATO too. Fraud.

    This is a fraud. Received a call from this number from a Defraud Tax Officer and was advised they were about to arrest me and cease all my assets due to outstanding ATO debts.

    I received 3 voice messages, from a Jack Cooper, ATO, tax audit and and legal lawsuit investigation. I am overseas, so it was a bit alarming. But I looked up the number and found out that it was a fake. It seems dangerous, the number should not be called.

    Recorded message (American automated voice) purporting to be an officer from the Australian taxation office advising that: we are under investigation for serious matters, a warrant has been issued, do not ignore, etc.

    I rang taxation office directly yesterday on a number displayed on its website about a previous call 2 days ago from same voice about an 'audit'. The ATO looked me up and there was no audit.

    I think Channel Ten TV had a similar situation but we missed the news show.

    This is a threatening message and should be stopped.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
