I got a call from from an ASIAN SOUNDING GENTLE advising me I was to get a refund from the government. Did I want a cheque or direct deposit. Being wary I said cheque. He then asked to confirm my date of birth and so gave him that and he then gave me a phone number to ring, he stated it was his manager and all I had to do to get the refund was ring him and give him the reference number that he gave to me. I then went to this site and found it was a scam. I have not rung 0280060455.
Claims to have a refund from the government, asking for a $349 fee (via Western Union) to release the funds.
They called me back asking why I didn't call the number. They tried claiming I don't have to pay anything to get the cheque I just need to speak to his manager Allen Johnson or Maria Edward to confirm my details.
I didn't call the number back as I decided to do a Google search on the phone number first. I was suspicious about the fact that they only knew my last name and not even the whole last name. Why do they need you to spell everything out?
Indian call center advised I was to receive $6325 in bank fees. Thought it was a scam right away and only gave some fictitious information about my details which they should have known anyway. Gave me Reference Number SR47 and told to ring their manager Alan Johnson or Maria Edwards on 02 80060455. (as if...) It was good letting him continue his speal while had a short and rewarding break.

Beware ... SCAM!
Scam for sure, got the call on my mobile, they knew a lot of my details prior, I did ring the number back and before they spoke, asked them why did they need me to pay first to get a refund cheque, plus a check on their number shows that they were frauds working via an indian call centre and tell every one they call the same amount is due, got told then the reason for the fee was to pay for a lawyer who acted on my behalf, really I said as I didn't authorise one then they hung up on me :(.

Reported to ACMA and ACCC.
Yep had the same but knew where my account was bank waiting on a call back to see what he says lol.
Caller claimed I was owed $6000 in over-charged bank fees.
He gave me a reference number and told me to call his supervisor on 0280060455 straight away. He said to ask for a Mr.Johnson. I didn't call and decided to Google the number instead.
Claimed to be Government - $6000.oo to be refunded but require $700.oo in legal fees - send monies first via Australia Post .... BEWARE.
Received a call from this number claiming to be from Reclaim Finance Dept of the Australian Government. Spoke with Alan Johnson. They wanted $700 dollars in legal fees prior to sending out a cheque. Told him to deduct from the money they were posting but he claimed he couldn't do that. I said "that's because its a scam and he hung up.
People from this number pretended to be from the government offering fee refunds from the bank and asked for personal details including date of birth. When phoned back and asked which department they said reclaims and when asked from where they hung up. There is a scam running from this number. Beware.
I think it is a spam. I had a call from them saying they were from the government and had a refund for me of $6000 but I had to ring them back and quote a reference number they gave me. I didn't ring back.
