    Today I received a call from this number. It was a recording (American accent), rather than a live call. The caller told me that he was a representative of the Australian Tax Department, who is supposedly about to take legal action against me. A warrant for my arrest has just been issued!

    Probably the least convincing scam call I've ever received. For the record, I don't owe the ATO anything and even if I did, I certainly wouldn't pay them in iTunes vouchers!

    Received a call from this number a moment ago saying it's a taxation call. Also said that I will be arrested if I don't call back.

    Didn't answer phone but a voice message with a generated computer voice was left. Said a law suit was being being filed under my name, and if I didn't call back immediately, an arrest warrant was being sent out. Wow.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
