    Answered this call, caller knew me by name, claimed to be from a company with "Equity" in it's title, claimed to have spoken to me several months ago about Tax and had information for me concerning what we had spoken about, I asked if he had my email address to which he replied "no" and he had no reference number on offer.

    To my understanding all legitimate companies have a privacy act process (esp. Government entities and their partners) of verification to clarify individuals as being the person/s they are contacting and or engaging in verbal communications.

    The caller had an Australian accent (I'm a Kiwi living in Australia) and all those who know, know we kiwi's have a good banter system with you Aussies, so beware my Aussie cousins don't be fooled please.

    I disengaged from the conversation, hung up, blocked the number and now informing you all to choose wisely before giving any information.

    Good luck.. Be safe.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
