The phone number 02 7912 0972 has sparked concerns among Australian phone users, emerging as a notorious scam caller primarily associated with unsolicited survey requests. A closer examination of user reports reveals a troubling pattern; numerous individuals have flagged this number as a source of spam and phishing attempts aimed at extracting personal information under the guise of conducting surveys.
From the outset, reports indicate that calls from this number are often abruptly disconnected without leaving a message. Many users noted receiving calls at odd hours, only to find that the caller hangs up as soon as the phone is answered. This is a classic tactic used by scammers to gauge active numbers and potentially mine data in future interactions.
- Survey and Personal Information Gathering: The majority of users reported being asked to participate in a survey, which, on the surface, may appear harmless. However, deeper investigation reveals that these surveys often require sensitive personal information, raising red flags about the intent of the calls.
- Claims of Legitimacy: Some callers have purportedly identified themselves as representatives from reputable organisations, such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics or Visa and Mastercard security. Yet, many users were quick to dismiss these claims, noting the evident inconsistency of a single caller representing two separate entities.
- User Concerns: Multiple complaints highlight suspicions that the callers had prior knowledge of personal information, such as names. This leads to speculation that information may have been obtained from leaked databases, making the calls particularly alarming.
With more than a dozen users reporting the same experiences and alarm about the nature of the calls, it's evident that 02 7912 0972 / 0279120972 is not a legitimate number but rather part of a larger scheme often seen in telecommunications; a scheme that exploits unsuspecting individuals for financial motives.
In light of this information, if you receive a call from 02 7912 0972 or any unfamiliar number, it is advisable to proceed with caution. Do not engage with the caller, and do not provide any personal details. Instead, consider utilising services like Reverseau to carry out a reverse phone lookup in Australia which can assist in verifying unknown callers and protecting your personal information.
It is clear from the accounts shared by users that staying vigilant when it comes to unknown calls can help mitigate the risks of falling prey to scams. Always prioritise your safety and security over any potential outreach claims.
