    Had exactly the same experience as above - Andrew regarding my next meter reading. I missed the call and called back and he just answered with "Hello" and a lot of background noise. I said I missed a call he said thanks for calling back I was calling about your next meter reading, you are the bill payer yes. I hung up.

    Called number back and a guy called Andrew answered with an accent (lots of people speaking in background) and said he was calling about my next meter reading and billing for electricity. I told him I didn’t want to speak to him and he seemed shocked when I hung up.

    Tagged as a scam call by my phone. Received a call yesterday from (02) 7900 1578, which has been identified as a scam number, so I'm assuming this is just a variation of that. Didn't answer & blocked.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
