Superannuation Impersonation Reports for 02 7256 9100

Eighteen contributors have flagged 02 7256 9100 (also written as 0272569100) for suspicious superannuation-related calls. The dominant pattern involves callers claiming affiliation with legitimate Australian super funds including Hostplus, CBUS, and Australian Super. Five separate reports specifically document impersonation tactics, with callers mentioning death benefit claims, insurance processing, and past employer details to build credibility.

The concerning aspect of reports about 0272569100 is the mixed legitimacy signal. While four contributors confirm receiving genuine calls from actual superannuation funds on this number, five contributors report clear scam indicators: callers claiming to represent super funds but disconnecting when called back, voicemail messages left outside normal business hours, and callers possessing knowledge of past employers without proper verification channels.

What Callers from 02 7256 9100 Claim

Contributors who received calls from 02 7256 9100 report callers identifying themselves by specific superannuation fund names. Several mention calls about death benefit claims and insurance claim processing. One contributor received a voicemail at 6 pm WST from someone claiming to be from Australian Super, which they flagged as suspicious because Australian Super operates in Eastern Australia and the timing was unusual (8 pm EST).

A critical pattern emerges in reports about 0272569100: when contributors attempt to verify the calls by ringing back, the number becomes unavailable or disconnected. One contributor noted the caller already knew details about a past employer, raising questions about data sourcing. Another received a voicemail directing them to call back on 1300 467 875, which they verified via email as legitimate, suggesting some calls may originate from legitimate sources but others do not.

Call Patterns and Timing

Contributors report receiving calls from 02 7256 9100 across multiple channels: answered calls, missed calls, and voicemails. The timing varies, with reports indicating calls occurring during evening hours (6 pm WST noted in one report, late evening calls in others). One contributor reported receiving two attempted calls in a single day with no voicemail left. The frequency and persistence suggest automated or targeted dialling, though contributors have not reported the high-volume daily patterns typical of robocalls.

Geographic inconsistency appears in one report about 0272569100: a contributor in Western Australia received a call at 6 pm local time from someone claiming to represent an Eastern Australia-based super fund, which the contributor assessed as suspicious timing. This pattern suggests either legitimate calls from legitimate super funds or scammers deliberately using unsociable hours to pressure recipients.

What to Do If You Receive a Call from 02 7256 9100

If 02 7256 9100 calls you:

  • Do not: Provide personal information, super details, bank account numbers, or password information over the phone
  • Do not: Return the call to the number shown on your phone, as scammers may route callbacks to different destinations
  • Do: Hang up and contact your superannuation fund directly using the number on your official super statement or their verified website
  • Do: Verify the caller's identity by asking specific questions about your account that only your actual super fund would know
  • Do: Be suspicious of calls mentioning death benefits or insurance claims unless you initiated the contact
  • Do: Block 0272569100 if the calls persist

Why Superannuation Scams Are Effective

Scammers impersonating super funds are effective because they exploit legitimate concerns about retirement savings and use real fund names to build trust. Contributors targeting calls from 02 7256 9100 demonstrate this vulnerability: several noted they initially believed the calls were legitimate because the caller used correct fund names and mentioned real circumstances (death benefits, insurance claims, employer details). The fact that some calls on this number appear to be legitimate adds to the confusion, making it harder for recipients to immediately identify fraudulent calls.

Missed a call from 02 7256 9100, at 6 pm WST, they left a message left. A female stating she was from Australian Super and to call her back. Firstly Aust Super work in Eastern Australia and at 6 pm WST it would have been 8 pm EST. I.

I doubt very much Aust Super would be calling me at this time if the day. Based on the number of people saying this number is related to CBUS Super, I’m calling this a scam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 02 7256 9100 definitely a scam?

Not definitively. Contributors report mixed outcomes with 0272569100: four confirm receiving legitimate calls from actual superannuation funds (CBUS and Hostplus) about genuine death benefit and insurance matters. However, five contributors document clear scam indicators, including callers claiming to represent super funds but being unavailable when called back. The safest approach is to never provide information directly to an inbound caller from 02 7256 9100, instead contacting your super fund independently using details from your official statement.

What should I do if someone from 02 7256 9100 claims to be from my super fund?

Hang up immediately and contact your superannuation fund directly using the phone number on your latest super statement or their official website. Do not use any callback number provided during the call from 0272569100. Legitimate super funds will never pressure you for information during unsolicited calls. Ask the person calling some specific details about your account that only your actual super fund would know, such as your account balance or specific insurance policy details.

Why would a scammer know details about my past employer?

One contributor reported that a caller from 02 7256 9100 mentioned a past employer, raising concerns about how the scammer obtained that information. Scammers source personal data from multiple places: publicly available information (LinkedIn profiles, company websites), data breaches, or previous scam victim databases. Using a past employer name builds false credibility and makes the call seem more legitimate, which is a deliberate social engineering tactic. This doesn't mean the caller is legitimate - it means they've done research to make their impersonation more convincing.

What if 02 7256 9100 left a voicemail asking me to call back?

Do not call back the number left on the voicemail from 0272569100. One contributor received a voicemail from someone claiming to be from Australian Super at 6 pm WST, which they correctly identified as unusual timing. If you're concerned about a superannuation matter, contact your super fund directly using the official number on your statement. One contributor did receive a legitimate voicemail directing them to call back on 1300 467 875, which they verified separately via email, but this is not the standard practice - legitimate funds typically call during business hours and provide clear verification options.

I called back 02 7256 9100 and got a disconnected message. What does that mean?

Multiple contributors reported calling back 0272569100 and encountering disconnected or unavailable messages. This is a strong indicator of scam activity, as legitimate superannuation fund customer service lines remain available during business hours. Scammers often use numbers that cannot accept inbound calls, forcing victims to call them back instead. If your legitimate super fund calls you and disconnects when you try to call back, contact them directly using their official website or statement to verify the call was genuine.

How can I verify if a call from 02 7256 9100 is really from my super fund?

Never trust information provided by the caller from 0272569100 alone. Always independently verify by: (1) Hanging up and calling your super fund on the number from your latest statement or their official website; (2) Asking the caller to provide specific account details that only your super fund would know; (3) Requesting they send written correspondence to your address on file if the matter is urgent; (4) Checking your super fund's website to see if there are any notifications about contacting members. Legitimate super funds understand verification procedures and will not pressure you to provide information immediately.
