I believe this is a total scam. I've been blocking several phone numbers over the past few weeks related to persistent calls about solar and hot water upgrades.
This caller's number appeared to be from New South Wales, although I currently live elsewhere. I used to live in Sydney, and it's worth noting that Sydney numbers typically do not begin with a '7'. I've stopped answering calls from unknown numbers due to the high volume of scams; if it's really important, they should leave a voicemail – which they never do! This pattern makes them really irritating.
This number continuously calls me, but I never answer as they never leave a message. The area code is from Sydney, but our numbers do not start with a 7.
Thanks to Optus for potentially leaking my information. If you notice a pause when answering a phone call, it's likely a scammer calling from overseas, using a spoofed local number.
Don't answer these calls have received a number of phone calls this week starting with 7253 XXXX when I rang back from my work landline which is not identified there is no sound on the other end of the phone. They are certainly persistent.
