Female with indian accent claimed to be from Telstra NBN security. I could barely understand her so could not work out her name. She asked if I had shared my broadband details with others as there were suspicious connections linked to my account which needed to be investigated.

/ verified.

I told her I had no links to Telstra. Female got aggressive and said I was with Telstra and needed to give her my ip address for verification.

I told her I believed her to be a scammer. This made her become more aggressive.

I then just hung up and blocked.

I was expecting a local and had missed a call from this number. Found it a bit odd as the recorded message was in English with female Aussie accent, but the grammar was questionable.

In one part saying "please call us back at some TIMES"

Indian female called me saying that she was calling about my NBN. Said it had been hacked. I could hear busy call centre background noise.

Female said she needed to get me to login to my computer so she could get remote access. I told her that I believed that my internet was fine. Told her I was busy and would call her back.

She became very aggressive and said that this was to be addressed immediately.

I said well I will call you back in a minute on this number. This ticked her off even more and said they did not accept incoming calls. It was here that solidified the fact it was a scam.

Could hear a busy call centre background as I answered this call.

Female with indian accent claimed to be "Stacey from NBN" and claimed that there were issues with my internet by way of other people hacking into it.

I told her this was impossible as I don't have MBN (I said M BN as I was pretending to be an old lady and didn't know what she meant)

She asked me to open up my computer and she would assist me. I told her I didn't have a computer. Then pretended I couldn't hear her, and told her I would hang up and call her back on this number.

Just hung up and blocked the number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do callers from 02 7240 7948 claim to be from NBN if they're scammers?

Impersonating a trusted service provider like NBN creates urgency and legitimacy. Contributors reported that callers from 02 7240 7948 used NBN as a pretext because most Australians have broadband accounts and can be convinced their connection is at risk. The claim about account hacking or unauthorized access is designed to bypass your normal caution and make you act quickly without verifying the caller's identity.

What would happen if I gave remote access to someone calling from 02 7240 7948?

Granting remote access to a scammer would give them full control of your computer. They could steal passwords, banking details, personal files, and install malware. Contributors who received calls from 0272407948 were specifically asked to log in to their computer and provide remote access for this exact purpose. Once they have access, they could compromise your financial accounts, steal your identity, or hold your data for ransom.

How can I tell if a call about NBN issues is legitimate?

Legitimate NBN representatives do not cold-call customers asking for remote access to computers. If you're concerned about your NBN service, hang up and contact NBN Co directly using the number on your bill or their official website. One contributor from 02 7240 7948 tried to call the number back and was told the number "did not accept incoming calls," which is a clear sign of a scam. Real NBN support can always be reached directly.

Why do the callers from 02 7240 7948 become aggressive when questioned?

Aggression is a manipulation tactic. When contributors questioned calls from 02 7240 7948 or resisted requests for remote access, callers escalated and became hostile, saying the issue had to be "addressed immediately." This pressure is designed to overcome your hesitation. Scammers use urgency and aggression to prevent you from thinking clearly or verifying their claims.

Should I be concerned if 02 7240 7948 calls me multiple times?

Yes. Multiple calls from 0272407948 suggest an organized campaign. Contributors reported calls from this number in a short timeframe, indicating an active scam operation targeting multiple people. Each call is an attempt to reach someone who will comply with the remote access request. Block the number and report it to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au) and ACMA (acma.gov.au) to help stop the operation.

What should I do if I already gave remote access to a caller from 02 7240 7948?

Act immediately. Disconnect your computer from the internet, change your passwords for all important accounts (banking, email, social media) from a different device, and monitor your accounts for unauthorised activity. Contact your bank and other financial institutions to alert them. Consider running antivirus and antimalware scans on your computer. Report the incident to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au), ACMA (acma.gov.au), and ReportCyber (cyber.gov.au) so authorities can track this scam operation targeting 02 7240 7948.
