Analysing 02 7238 4675: A Clear Scam Caller

The phone number 02 7238 4675 / 0272384675 has gained notoriety among Australian phone users for its deceptive practices. Based on recent user reports, it has been classified as a scam number. Specifically, it appears to engage in phishing scams that aim to obtain sensitive financial information from unsuspecting individuals.

Understanding the Scam Attempts

Reports indicate that this number has reached out under two different pretenses. In one instance, callers claimed to be from Telstra, insisting that they needed to discuss issues related to the user’s internet IP address. The alarming part? Many individuals who received this call reported not even being Telstra customers. This raises red flags as it suggests that the callers are simply fishing for personal information under false pretences.

Similarly, another set of reports involved the same number connecting with users claiming to be from Amazon Prime. The callers threatened that the users’ accounts would be charged $99 unless they responded immediately. This tactic is commonly known as a 'look out for financial charges' scheme, which puts undue pressure on targets to react hastily, often leading to compromised credit card details.

Called from what clearly sounded like a call centre. Said they were calling from Telstra regarding my internet IP address. I don't have any accounts with Telstra. Clearly a scam caller.

I received a voicemail from this number, but the message was garbled and impossible to understand. I didn’t feel it was worth calling back. According to Reverse Australia, this number might be linked to Capital Plumbing. Since I’m a tenant, there is no reason for me to contact a plumbing business.
