A caller falsely claimed to represent "Green Australia" on behalf of the Australian Government Solar Rebate program. The contributor noted that the caller already knew their surname and repeatedly asked whether they were the property owner and if solar panels were installed at the property. When questioned about how these details were obtained, the caller claimed the line was "breaking up" and offered to arrange a callback from the same number - a classic stalling tactic.

What to Do If You Receive a Call from 02 7234 4055

If 02 7234 4055 calls you:

  • Do not: Confirm whether you own property, have solar panels, or answer questions about personal assets; return the call; or provide any personal information

  • Verify independently: If you believe the call might relate to a genuine government program, contact the relevant agency directly using an official phone number from their website, never using a number provided by the caller

Brief silence and then connection to a call centre. Allegedly calling from "Green Australia" wanting to "speak to the property owner on behalf of the Australian Government Solar Rebate program". Already knew my surname and kept asking if I was the property owner and if we had solar panels at the property. I did not deny or confirm any of the details they had. When I asked how they obtained these details, they stated the line was "breaking up" and they could arrange a call back from the same number. I have now blocked the number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 02 7234 4055 really calling from the Australian Government Solar Rebate program?

No. One contributor confirmed that the caller claiming to represent "Green Australia" and the Australian Government Solar Rebate program was impersonating official channels. Legitimate government programs do not call unsolicited asking you to confirm property ownership or solar panel installation. If you receive such a call from 0272344055, hang up and verify directly through official government websites.

How did the caller from 02 7234 4055 know my surname?

The caller from 0272344055 already knew the contributor's surname, suggesting the number is being used as part of a targeted campaign with data from a previous source - possibly a data breach, purchased contact lists, or previous interactions with legitimate companies. This pre-knowledge of personal details is a common scam tactic to build false trust. Do not assume the caller is legitimate because they know your name.

Why did the caller from 02 7234 4055 offer a callback when I asked questions?

When the contributor challenged the caller about how they obtained personal information, the caller from 02 7234 4055 claimed the line was "breaking up" and offered to arrange a callback. This is a stalling and evasion tactic. Legitimate callers answer questions directly. The callback offer also means the number 0272344055 would contact you again, potentially through a spoofed or different line, continuing the scam.

What should I do if 02 7234 4055 keeps calling me repeatedly?

Multiple contributors report that 0272344055 calls persistently without backing off. Block the number immediately in your phone settings. Report the persistent calls to ACMA at acma.gov.au and to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au. Do not engage with repeated calls, do not answer questions, and do not provide any information about your property or personal details.

Are loan and VR offers from 02 7234 4055 legitimate?

No. Several contributors report that callers from 02 7234 4055 mentioned loans and VR (virtual reality) promotions. Combined with the impersonation scam report and persistent calling behaviour, these appear to be spam or scam attempts. Legitimate financial offers do not come from numbers associated with government impersonation scams.

Who is behind the calls from 02 7234 4055?

The number 0272344055 is a NSW local service allocated to NetSIP Pty Ltd, a VoIP provider. However, VoIP numbers can be used by multiple callers or spoofed entirely. One contributor mentioned a caller claiming to be from "AfroLabs," while another reported "Green Australia." This suggests either the number is shared by different operations or callers are spoofing the number. Report all instances to ACMA for investigation.
