Tech Support Impersonation Reports for 02 6422 6515

One contributor has reported receiving a call from 02 6422 6515 (also written as 0264226515) following a suspicious Facebook message claiming system compromise. The caller posed as a technician and made multiple attempts to gain remote access to the contributor's computer before abruptly hanging up when access was refused.

This pattern indicates a coordinated social engineering attack combining fake platform alerts with callback requests. The number 0264226515 was used to establish false credibility after the initial Facebook message created urgency and concern.

What the Caller from 02 6422 6515 Claimed

The caller who contacted the contributor from 02 6422 6515 presented themselves as a technician responding to the alleged security compromise flagged in the Facebook message. Rather than verify the contributor's identity or system details, the caller made immediate requests to access the contributor's screen-a hallmark of tech support impersonation scams.

When the contributor declined screen access on the first attempt, the caller persisted with a second request before discontinuing contact. This behaviour suggests the caller was operating from a script designed to pressure victims into granting access before they could verify the legitimacy of the threat or the caller's credentials.

How This Scam Works

The attack sequence reported against 02 6422 6515 follows a recognisable pattern: a fake security alert appears on a trusted platform (in this case Facebook), creating alarm; the victim then receives a callback or returns a number, connecting them with someone posing as a technician. Once remote access is granted, scammers can install malware, steal banking credentials, or lock the user out of their own system to demand a ransom.

The contributor's caution in refusing access prevented potential data theft or system compromise. However, the mere presence of the fake alert and follow-up call suggests the attacker may already have the contributor's contact details and platform username, indicating possible data from a prior breach.

This phone number was used by a?technician? After I received a message from Facebook that my system had been compromised. After two attempts by the caller to access my screen, he hung up abruptly when I would not allow access.

I clicked initially on facebook messages and then my system went into an alleged "frozen state.

I suspect caution to be used if this happens to anyone else.

Frequently Asked Questions

I received a Facebook security alert and then a call from 02 6422 6515. Is this real?

No. This is a coordinated scam. Legitimate platforms like Facebook never call you following a security alert. The number 0264226515 was used by a scammer posing as a technician. Always verify alerts independently by logging directly into the official website, never by clicking links or calling numbers in messages.

Should I call 02 6422 6515 back if they leave a voicemail?

No. Do not call back 0264226515. If a caller claims to be from tech support, contact the company directly using a number from their official website, not a number provided in a voicemail or message. Scammers use callback requests to establish connection and control the conversation.

What happens if I grant remote access to a scammer from 02 6422 6515?

Remote access allows scammers to install malware, steal banking and email credentials, access personal files, or lock you out and demand ransom. If you've already granted access to this number, disconnect immediately, change all passwords from another device, scan for malware, and notify your bank and ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au.

How do scammers using 0264226515 get my phone number?

Data breaches of retailers, service providers, or online platforms are common sources. The contributor received this call after a coordinated fake Facebook alert, suggesting the scammer had already obtained their details. Monitor your accounts for suspicious activity and consider privacy settings on social media.

Is 02 6422 6515 a real business number?

The number 0264226515 is registered as a local service in NSW through Symbio Networks. However, scammers often hijack or spoof legitimate local numbers to appear credible. Never assume a call is genuine based on the number format alone; always verify independently.

What should I do if I keep receiving calls from 02 6422 6515?

Block the number on your phone immediately. Report repeated calls to ACMA at acma.gov.au and Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au. If you've engaged with the caller, also report to ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au. Blocking and reporting help prevent others from being targeted by 0264226515.
