Understanding the Scam Behind 02 6190 0426
The phone number 02 6190 0426 has garnered significant attention from users who report it as a scammer posing as the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). In a concerning number of incidents, individuals have reported receiving aggressive and misleading calls claiming urgent fraud-related issues.
Analysis of User Reports
User experiences indicate a consistent theme: the calls often feature a robotic or scripted voice attempting to convince recipients that there is a serious problem with their tax records. The tactics deployed by these scammers typically include:
- Claiming that a lawsuit has been filed against the victim.
- Mimicking official ATO communications in tone and style.
- Encouraging the victim to confirm personal details, particularly by using the tactical question method to solicit a "yes" response.
- Using threatening language to create panic.
Identifying the Scam
Each report highlights a common thread that indicates fraudulent activity. Legitimate communications from the ATO will never ask for sensitive information in this manner. Moreover, the ATO is known for its courteous and professional approach, unlike the aggression exhibited by callers from this number.
Furthermore, one user explicitly indicated their discomfort when the caller demonstrated knowledge of their name without first establishing any grounds for such information. This tactic often serves to create an illusion of credibility, leading less cautious individuals to quickly divulge personal details.
What to Do If You Receive a Call from 02 6190 0426
To protect yourself from this scam:
- Do not engage. If you receive a call from this number, hang up immediately.
- Do not provide any personal information. The ATO will never ask for sensitive details through unexpected calls.
- Block the number. Consider blocking 02 6190 0426 / 0261900426 to prevent future calls.
- Report the incident. Inform the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) or other relevant authorities about the scam.

Another ATO Scammer - from the AUSTRIAN Taxation Office!!!
This is a scam. They answered and knew my name from my mobile number. The ATO would never assume that prior to asking for details. They seemed to want me to say "YES" - and then when I would not - they hung up on me - not likely the real ATO who have always been very polite and helpful to me.
