Phone number was:

0284172931 by the way. Never ring it without 1831 at the beginning to hide your number or from a mobile type HIDE before the number to hide your mob number.

I am mad because I was not home at the time and my wife was in a panic. I told her it was a Scam.

It was a recorded voice and to continue the Scam they give you a phone number similar to the one above so they can drag you further towards their evil Scam. Be alert people !

They called today in a threatening way and gave this number to call them back.

When I called it using 1831 in front of that number nobody answered.

Tax Office site has info on this Scam - they never threaten or do things that way. Stay alert people they are real scum bags and Tax office does not want iTunes cards as payments. That should wake up the very naïve fools out there who would actually proceed with these Scammers.

This is definitely a scam. I wouldn't call them back. I believe the number was pulled from my records with domain name registration records.

Just got same recorded message. Called back with my number blocked and had no response for about 5 sec before they hung up.

Scam for sure.

If you get a call and you're worried, call back the ATO on their main number (13 28 61) - but seeing as you should trust a random comment on the internet about as much as you should trust these scammers, look their number up yourself on their web site - [link].

I just got a similar call - I was on the phone and voice to text message said "we want you or your ______ to call us back before you face some police officer at your doorstep or at your place of employment". Considering this is the first call I have had from this number, and having dealt with the ATO as an accountant, this is certainly not the approach I have seen them take in the past so I would have to agree it sounds like a scam.

Yes, had same thing - recorded message saying it was prosecutor for ATO and to avoid police turning up at my work or home I was to call this number immediately: 0261721219.

Just I got a phone call (automated message) about defaulting payment to ATO and a police officer will be outside my home or place of work. Ring 0261721219 immediately. I tried ringing and the guy who receives the call is called Daniel from ATO (Sydney Office). When I probed more he puts the phone down.

Just received a call and I phoned the number and I was told I had defrauded the tax office from 2012-2016 and a warrant had been issued for my arrest. He told me not to interrupt while he was reading my defaults. I told him I knew nothing about this and he got quite nasty so I hung up. Scammers...

Same here received a threatening automated call. I called back and his accent told me he was a fraud.

Yep I did too. Block it!

Had same call about an hour ago. automated. American accent. computerised voice. Threatening Director Public Prosecutions ATO and Police coming to home or work unless I call this number. Had these before. Originating overseas and coming through internet and out through local ACT number.

If you get to speak with anyone, best thing is to string them along by saying you already paid this $50.000 debt and offer a made up receipt number, and then hang up. They will sit there wishing they could get hold of that BS 50k by forcing you to pay it again, and they will be really upset when they cant track you down. You can sit at home and know that you just extracted "payback".

Oh, btw, don't forget to hide yr number first!

(#1831 on landline or HIDE number on mob).
