What Our Users Reviewed
Recorded message was strange and I didn't hear a complete message to determine who the call was from. Number rang out or was engaged. The previous comments are very useful to prevent me wasting any further time.
Just got this call this afternoon. Robotic recording that goes too fast to even write down the number to call back. Threatening that if I or my barrister doesn't return the call the police will be at my door. Calling the same number back just rings and rings to an old dial tone, probably somewhere in India.
Got a call today (4.50pm 20 March 2017) - so this has been going on for months with this same phone number... While governments are tapping innocent civilians worldwide, how long does it take to trace scammers like this and put them out of action?
Scammers. beware.
Yes, scam. I do know a few people who fell for this (believe it or not), and in the end they ask for payment via iTunes Cards!!!
Bizarre, but it seems to work sometimes.
Fails to identify who they are and what matter. No government authority I know uses this type of voice disguise, its just not necessary and the phone just comes up busy. Perhaps as they threaten that police will be on our doorsteps we all report this to the police. There should be an easy way to report this to the authorities but the govt scamwatch makes it ridiculously impossible to do so.
Same. Computer generated, Called back, couldn't get out of them what they wanted. Definitely scam...not ATO behaviour. Cant see a reason other than to verify phone number -as they rang it anyway- to connect my name with my mobile. Anybody any clues for what purpose?
I also received the same voicemail on my Skype number 2 days ago. Didn't bother to call back, just figured it was a scam. ATO don't call you, if there is an issue with your tax return.
Yeah we got a dodgy computer generated ATO call from this number too. Kids were wondering why they didn't just call me with their actual voice. To hide their accent I would say.
Got the same threatening call and I used a landline to call back asking if they are in NSW. A guy with Indian accent just couldn't explain my questions but kept asking me my mobile number. I didn't tell him so he hang up.
These are scammers.
Total scam. Just received the same call everyone got, called the ATO and they indeed confirmed there had not been an authorized outgoing call to me today.
Same thing just happend to me. Threatening call. "if you don't call back in this no, police will be on your door step"... going to call back now.
Scam pretending being the ATO.
Scam phone call number pretending to be the ATO.
Definitely a scammer... Left me a voicemail by some type of computer generated voice saying ".... we want you to call back before you will face some police officer at your doorstep ......" piss off f.. King scammer ....
Just got an automate message from this number as well and the content is same as the other comments. Funny enough they called my work phone so I don't believe it is a legit ATO message. It gives me a feeling more like they are calling a big batch of land lines and see who will actually call them back.
Exact same thing happened to me just now. Left a messaging saying to call back or the police would come... What a joke.
Scam, just called the office then.
Im sure if we owed money to the ATO they would send a letter before bringing in the cops lol.
Yeah - left an automated call message on my voice-mail today 14/3/2017; when I called back I cd tell by the noises it was re-directing overseas, and an Indian guy answered saying "you have reached the investigation dept of the Aust Tax Office - how can I help you?" I just laughed at him and hung up. I may have said f___ off as well.
Same thing just happened to me.
Called me saying he was from the ATO and accusing me of not paying my tax. A machine voice told me that I have to call this number 02 6172 1006 from my barrister, a quick message that it was not clear.
Automated call asking me to call back before they send police to my place of work. Claimed to be calling on behalf of the ATO.
Scam - just got the same scammer call - never hand out any of your personal info, these people are thieves.
Twice these people have left a recorded message on my mobile's voicemail purporting to be from the ATO demanding that I call them back in order to stop police being at my door or place of work. Surely the police can track them down from the number?
Scam recorded message apparently from ato, american accent.
Scam.
Called number - rude/arrogant male purportedly from Australian Taxation Office - Tax Crime and Investigation Service. I asked for a name - Daniel Franklin, he asked for my TFN and when I told him there was no way I was going to provide it to him because he was a scammer he told me to F off, then he hung up on me.
Automated voice message saying it was the ATO requesting funds.
