The number left on my machine was 02 6100 3385.
Same MO purporting ATO. Ignore and report these cowards and thieves; eventually they will go down..
Received a phone call yesterday and today from this number. A female voice saying she was Vicky or Nicky Johnson asking to ring her back, also saying it was a time sensitive call and to ring back urgently. It was a recorded message. Instead we rang the ATO and reported the call.
Just phone back this number and two names associated with this scam saying they are from Australian tax office are Ricky or Vicky Johnson and Jason White.
I received two messages on my phone from a machine activated voice saying they were a Ricky (or Vicky) Johnson say that they were from the Australian Tax Office and it was a time sensitive call and to phone back urgently or they would have to take further action. Oh and the machine voice said take care at the end of the message. Charming. I tried to phone back got engaged tone and tried again and the line was dead. Love to give them a piece of my mind.
Surprisingly, I listened. There were four calls and when I answered, the caller hung up. I rang the number as I have clients in NSW and David Lee answered the phone as "Australian Taxation Office" this is David Lee speaking. After quoting an ATO ID number and a case number, he informed me I was under investigation by the ATO and the DPP for violation of Commonwealth Tax Regulations; Theft by deception and wilful representation in lodging incorrect documentation to a government department. He said I was not to ask questions until he had read all the charges. I kept asking him questions as being a Tax Agent I thought it was to do with a client.
He refused and I hang up and reported the call to the ATO as a phone scam.
Interestingly I just got this call but my phone rung once and then stopped.. I decided to check the caller ID and it was blank as if the phone hadn't even rung yet somehow there was a message left on my messaging service... Something must have gone wrong cos 'peter oconnol' he called himself only left half the message.. Hopefully that means these dirty scoundrels have been caught up with and cut off..
"Peter" left a message today on my answering machine saying he was from the ATO calling on behalf of the CDPP about tax evasion and fraud. He did not use names at all. "Peter" suggested not to ignore the message and to call him back on (02) 6152 8695 otherwise the matter would be escalated further. I knew it must have been a scam because "Peter" sounded like the usual overseas call centre suspects. I decided to call the CDPP to inform them. The said they had been inundated with phone calls and the matter had been referred to the Australian Federal Police to investigate. Further to this, my parents received the same call today but the call was from "David". Hope this helps and please ignore the calls!
Yes, I got this call too on 11th of May, from the effervescent Peter at ATO for JDPP. Coincidentally I've had some involvement in the legal arena and know there is no place such as JDPP so Googled this before it went any further. Some sad people out there. Thanks everyone for you comments confirming this is a scam!
I am one of the gullible ones that fell for this ruse. Got a message from "Peter" on the answering machine that sounded like the ATO had caught up with me after failing to complete my tax return for several years (still paying PAYG tax though). Called the number three times.
1. After hours - straight to answering machine.
2.09:15 AEST - rang out for 30 secs, then answering machine.
3.16:00 AEST - rang out for 30 secs, then answering machine.
The message sounded pretty convincing, that I didn't think to Google the number first. Actually glad that I did that just now after stressing all day.
I must thank him for the wake up call to get my tax affairs in order. Will be seeing a tax accountant next week!
Sounded soyself that I didn't Google the number first.
This number rang and told me I was being investigated for tax fraud and mentioned DPP???
Yes. Have just this afternoon arrived home to a message from Peter. What a lovely surprise to have him inform of our looming Tax Fraud and his position as a representative of CDPP (Thats Nice). He politely threatened us with legal action yada yada yada. Strongly urged to call back immediately and suggested contacting an "Attorney". Hmmm not sure we use the term Attorney here in Australia.
Oh My God what should I do. Oh wait I know, I would strongly urge anyone receiving a call such as this to ensure that you don't become another gullible fool falling for this rubbish. So beware of "Peter" with a fairly strong possibly Filipino accent. Its a scam.
Likewise - call from "Peter" demanding we call him back or suffer tax fraud charges. We too were wished "good luck" if we failed to respond. Gave me a good laugh. Thanks Pete!
We received a call from this number. A foreign sounding gent claimed to be from the Australian Taxation Office and that we owe $4000 in tax and if we don't call him (Peter) back then we would be in jail. He also said "good luck" if we don't call, VERY professional!
A complete scam !!!
