    Yup. Called ATO on 132869 and reported this SCAM. ATO said they have had a spike in scam reports and will investigate to shut this one down.

    Nasty scammers. I feel so sorry for those who get stung by them.

    Hmmm - just had this myself. Scared the living daylights out of me, as I have a current tax debt that I am paying off in installments. Thought it was fishy when he said that they couldn't offer any help because I couldn't make a payment immediately and then basically ended the call with there will be a warrant for your arrest issued at 9am sharp tomorrow. Have a nice evening"" Shithead!!

    Received phone message 10th June 2015 from asian voice saying they were from "CDTP" acting for "Director of Public Prosecutors for the ATU" (I assume it was supposed to be ATO) and that I or my lawyer should contact them "ASAP" relating to charges against me for tax evasion and tax fraud. The number to ring was 02 6152 8691.

    This has to be a scam! Firstly I think you would hear from the ATO themselves via letter to you or your accountant if an issue relating to your tax existed. Secondly I think the person would ask for you by name, not just leave a message on a phone saying, 'you'. Thirdly I don't think the ATO would use the words "ASAP" when leaving a message and fourthly the message sounded like it was computer-generated. Don't be fooled. If you have been evading paying tax or committed tax fraud Im sure the ATO will write to you to officially tell you, you're in trouble!

    Indian/Asian recording saying I was going to be prosecuted for tax evasion and I would be hearing from their lawyers within the next couple of days if I didn't respond to the message within a certain period and to call him back on the 02 61528691…..This telephone number used to come in on my caller id so didn't answer it, now it comes in as a private number, leaving the message to call that number.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
