I had a message left on my phone on the morning of August 12. A woman with what sounded like a heavy Russian accent said that charges had been laid against me in a court in the ACT. The message was hard to understand, but it sounded like the charges had to do with "IPO for cards evasion and cards fraud". Probably that was meant to be the ATO, and tax evasion and tax fraud. I was told to ring the number 0261528684 immediately on getting the message, or to get my legal representative to ring on my behalf. It was "time critical" to do so if I was to avoid arrest. I take a dim view of being threatened with arrest when I've done nothing wrong. I think whoever sent this message is playing a nasty game, which could frighten vulnerable people and maybe defraud them. I hope they can be tracked down and stopped.
Call comes in from overseas. Says it's an automated message from DPP in Canberra. Says to avoid being arrested for tax fraud I need to ring 0261528684. This is obviously some sort of scam what ever you do don't ring this number.
I was given this number by a woman with an Indian accent perporting to be from Commonwealth DPP wanting to talk to me about a case against me for tax fraud.
