02 6152 8675: Scam Alert – ATO Tax Evasion Threat

I recieve constant calls from this number is a machine animated service saying it's crazy wins casino and iv won all this money it's a scam iv never heard of nor played or signed up to this.

This number keep calling and left message saying they are calling from ATO, but I do believe ATO do not make such calls and I did called back. The ring tone sounds very unprofessional, and first time was picked up by an Indian guy, and second time sounded was picked up by Aussies, both very unprofessional and because of their ancient I do not understand what they were saying and they are very inpatient and hang up the call! Must be scam! But very annoying! Keep calling everyday!

I had a similar call with a computer generated voice from "Nicki Johnson" except phone number to call was 0261452270, same scam I believe..

Happened to me just today. I told the guy that this is rubbish and possible scam. He hang up.

This is a scam don't give any personal details no matter what they say. Tax office don't make such calls.

I received the call this morning and the message was left with the above number to call if I wanted to avoid charges, when returned the call male voice answered giving his Id number, and stating my address if it was correct. Well it was but the guy couldn't tell me my full name and D.O.B When I asked him for my tax file number he said don't worry and hung up. He sounded like Indian to me.

Rec'd missed call on mess.bank. rang back to ask to speak to Nicki Johnson. Was told he was her supervisor, and canhelp. Asked what my phone was, told him then he asked for my name. I replied "you should know that, you phoned me". Gave some random name, wrong. He hung up. Reported to ATO and scammers aust.

Same as above a recorded message claiming to be from ATO.

Getting so many calls from this number it is spam do not call them back.

Like all of the above people messages have been left on our answering machine.... From Nicki Johnston.... The time and day are way out and had the same threats too.... Have reported it.

Received a call from a Nikki Johnson saying they were investigators from tax office. Called back and a Michael Johnson answered was then put into a Thomas Walton who gave his I'd number as 1062579. Both males had the same accent and voice structure. And Nikki Johnson has an American accent although I believe to be digital ised and threatened to action if call not returned.

Yes I received calls to call back. My story is the same as most of you. Then they called pretending they were from my local police staion checking my address so as to bring by a warrant for my arrest. I'm in a small town so I knew then..... Why do thy do this? I'm still shaking!

Got the Nikki Johnson spam call today.

Pre-recorded voice (American woman) claiming to be from ATO calling to claim they are filing a law suit for tax evasion. Asked to call back on that number.

I got a call yesterday afternoon on my land line from Nicky Johnson stating she was from Australian Tax office - she had an American accent but the voice was like a computerised voice. She said I must call her back on 02 6152 8675 otherwise garnishee action will commence immediately. I came to work today and told me colleagues about it and after doing some searches, with one simple search being putting the phone number in Google, its a scam. Anyway alarm bells rang when it was a person with an American accent computerise voice left the message along with the fact that I don't have any outstanding matters with ATO or debt collectors for the need to garnishee me! Beware.

Received a call from a male with an Asian accent supposedly from ATO who was very aggressive and told me I had till 5pm to pay the money I owed or my accounts, passport assets etc would be frozen and advised me to get an ATTORNY...mistake!!!! we don't use that term in Oz he should have said legal advice or lawyer so I suddenly realised it may be a scam and hung up... Nicky J rang me to tell me she was a federal agent and coming to arrest me... Still waiting Nicky!... Sick greedy people to who need stopping I was disgusted to see they have been at this so long... We need our Federal police to be more proactive!

Got a message on the phone today, very similar to the one below, mentioning Nikki Johnson, time sensitive, to avoid action taken against me. Was a lady with American accent.

I got exact same call... Name given to ask for was Nicky Johnson....

Scam!

Message basically said " issue at hand extremely time sensitive.. Respond immediately before action taken against you".

Voice on message was American female.... And oddly ended with " goodbye and take care " ....!!!

I didn't think the Tax Office would end a message that way....!

Message also said it was ATO.

Yes phoned me twice but could not leave a message as I don't have my answering machine on for this reason. Phoned back and Michael Johnson said he was from the ATO investigations branch, when I wouldn't give him more details he said well I would be sorry when the Police come to arrest me for fraud........hahaha.

Received a call today from this number (which went to message bank) telling me to not disregard the call and to call them immediately before action is taken against me. Having typed their number into Google I found this site and am relieved to see that it is not legit. I will not be returning their call so thanks for the information regarding 02 6152 8675.

Thank GOD for Google! 2 messages were left with my landline from purportedly 2 different numbers. The 8675 was re the "ATO action for tax evasion and wilful fraud" however the line quality for an ACT number was somewhat dubious AND the accent had definite undertones of the subcontinent. This is ridiculous and totally unacceptable.

I just received a voice mail with the same message as many people above! Literally word by word so yes it is a scam! Please block !

This number is being used as a scam by people pretending to be from the ATO or Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecution. It is an scam to get your personal banking and tax information to be used to commit freud. The person claimed to be Michael Smith and was saying that I was being prosecuted for tax evasion. I have reported this number to the ATO and Police.

The number is Australia Reverse - this should be stopped. More of this seems to be happening since Australia sent a lot of our services eg Telstra, Optus, Vodaphone overseas.

I received a voice message on 3/6/15 at 10.12 am. A man with an accent sounded Indian/Phillipino. At the beginning the first bit was cut off. Not at any time was my name mentioned nor his. He said he was from the Directors (notice the s) of Public Prosecutions (s added) in Canberra and that a legal lawsuit in my name has been filed against me by the ATO for tax evasion and wilful fraud. I or my attorney was to phone 02 61528675. He ended by saying do not disregard this call and to phone immediately.

I'm sure the ATO writes to people and does not call and leave a message like this. He wouldn't have a clue who he was leaving a message for. Just randomly picked my number, the scumbag.

These idiots are frauds and unfortunately there are gullible people who they prey on. I will be reporting this to Scam Watch. Apparently the Federal Police are investigating this matter.

These ????? left a message re a Law suit for Tax Avoid & Fraud, we are older people and this caused a great deal of stress to us, yes, thank goodness for your web site.

Never use/give out the house phone, just noticed two messages on the voicemail from last week. This scam, same words as previous poster. What Jerks!

So good to have this site scared me when I got this aggressive person telling me I was up for tax fraud. I can't imagine what it would do to an older persons grr makes me so angry will be posting on my facebook to warn everyone. Thanks to all those who have left comments :).

Got a call from these scumbags. I kept calling and eventually the guy said "sorry there is nothing we can do there is a warrant for your arrest!"... so I said "haha yeah right!" and he hung up. So I googled the number and.. Here I am :).

This ATO scam has been going on since at least APRIL (on the SCAMwatch page they list only one phone number used by the scammers: 02 6100 3027).

THIS SCAM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR DAYS. THEY ARE TRYING TO GET YOUR TAX FILE NUMBER OR TO GET YOU TO WITHDRAW MONEY AND SEND IT TO THEM.

This is my SECOND call in THREE days of this type. The first one scared the life out of me (very aggressive tone as others have said). Thank goodness for sites like these!

The first call I had was much the same - mumbled voice with accent (Filipino??), so you think the first part where you are addressed by name has been cut off - but actually they never address you by name or include any personal details.

The first caller gave his name as 'Robbie King' and the phone number to call as 02 6152 8663.

This second call was much the same - same script as others have posted, but he did not give himself a name, and it was a different man with a different accent (Slavic???). Both calls were mid-morning, around 10am.

When I got the first call, I rang Telstra, but there is little they can do; the phone number given is never answered. They blocked the number for me (you can have up to 15 numbers blocked for free) but it hasn't stopped them! Telstra also said they can put a trace on my phone if it keeps happening.

Next I rang the ATO - who told me that THOUSANDS of these calls have been made all across Australia in the past several days, and that because they originate overseas (he seemed to think Romania and Russia) they have no jurisdiction and there's nothing they can do.

He suggested calling your local radio station and ask them to put the word out, or to have a whistle by the phone and blow it hard in their ear if it happens again!!! (Probably best not to engage, just delete it).

He also said they are targeting seniors, hospices, old people's homes - one old gentleman was at his credit union withdrawing his life savings, only the teller queried it and stopped him - so please spread the word to your community, workmates, family, friends. Not everyone has the internet or is familiar with these scams, and it's those people these ratbags are targeting!

If anyone knows of a better way to spread the word please post it. I thought about Scamwatch; TV station current affairs?

Received the call today. Poor American accent. Not calling back. Definitely a scam.

Same message left on answering machine in Sydney on Thursday 28th May 2015. Message left: "Australian Taxation Office representing the Commonwealth Public Prosecutor in Canberra the reason I'm calling is because a legal lawsuit has been filed on your name by the ATO concerning tax evasion and wilful fraud. I want You or your retained attorney to call 0261528675 (Then repeats the number) Do not disregard this message and do call us back immediately." Very aggressive. Ignoring it.

We received the same call. Exact same details and wording. I am not a pensioner. The ATO would not contact someone in this manner. It would send a letter. Just ignore it!

Same bullshit voice message in Sydney a little less than half an hour ago. Pathetic and super obvious as it doesn't mention specifically who it's trying to reach.

A voice-mail message on the land-line yesterday - from the ATO and suggesting a return call immediately because of tax fraud and willful whatever. A scam; a sub-contintental accent from caller.

I came home tonight here in Perth to a phone message which sounded as if the first part which would perhaps have stated who he wanted to speak to and who he was was not recorded but the rest of the message was word for word as stated here above. I've worried about this for a couple of hours thinking I'll have to get up early before work to phone. Worried how I coukd possibly have evaded tax until I read this. Thanks. What on earth were they trying to achieved ??!! Idiots.

Sometimes sounds like talking with marbles in mouth.

We also had a message left on our phone stating that we needed to ring the number as we had committed tax fraud. Definitely a scam = message was deleted immediately.

Had a message from this number on answering machine at my mum's tried calling it back twice first time it was engaged second time it rang out. And after it rang out I searched online found this my mum is a pensioner so I was a bit concerned.

Received an aggressive voice message from this number. Person with an Indian accent advising we had to call back immediately as we had committed tax fraud and evasion lol. Definitely a scam. Seem to be targeting the elderly and vulnerable. Did not address us by name nor leave a case/file number. Don't get fooled by these scammers!

Perth WA, had the same aggressive phone message saying we would be done for tax evasion. Tried to call and no one answered.

Received a very Stern message re tax evasion fr this number - Michael Smith ATO re commonwealth of Director.

Of Public Prosecutions Legal Lawsuit etc ph back Immediately - tried to ph back But 2 hr difference a in WA.

Ph rang and rang Tried again on 26/5/15 but ph didn't register.

Someone left this number to call them back. The message was quite aggressive with an Indian accent and purported to be from the Tax Office and said there was a law suit against us and that we were to contact them immediately. Fat Chance!
