Understanding the Scam Behind 02 6152 8631
The phone number 02 6152 8631 / 0261528631 has come under fire from alert Australian citizens who have reported it as a scam number. With a slew of user reviews detailing harrowing experiences, it appears this number is central to a common and sinister ploy—pretending to be a government representative regarding tax evasion. This troubling trend is often aimed at extracting personal information from unsuspecting individuals.
Characteristics of the Scam
The nature of the calls made from 02 6152 8631 / 0261528631 typically involves a pre-recorded voice message. Callers, who often carry a faint American accent, assert that they represent the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP). These calls usually claim the recipient is facing urgent legal action, but crucially, they fail to authenticate the recipient's identity, bypassing any mention of their name or personal details—red flags that this is no legitimate call.
Why You Should Be Cautious
Numerous users have reported receiving messages instructing them to call back regarding supposed tax evasion claims. Reports range from vague claims of owing money to false offers of refunds—all of which are designed to create panic and prompt recipients to disclose sensitive information. Several have indicated that once they begin to request further details or clarification from the caller, the responses become evasive and, in some instances, lead to the call being abruptly ended.
How to Handle a Call from 02 6152 8631

Just had a call saying that I have $6525 in overcharges. Said he was from the reclaimed money department of the federal government. He asked to confirm my name and address and DOB. Which I gave him a wrong date. I then have to ring the number listed above and ask for John Douglas and quote a reference number, I guarantee that if I did that he would try to get my bank details. They seem to be targeting Melbourne now. Same deal as the other comments - what sounds like a pre-recorded voice with a faint American accent saying they were from the CDPP and the issue was regarding tax evasion. No details, no mentioning me by name, etc. Decided to check online as to whether this was a scam or not before doing anything else which obviously was the right thing to do.
Got call from this number as a tax evasion call from the dpp. Urgent and call back this number. Called the number and there is no connection.

This is a scam number. Just got a phone call with a recorded message saying I had a legal action against me for tax evasion. The message didn't include my name, or any details about me. Anyone could have answered the phone. I was asked to call back (02) 6152 8631 to discuss the issue.
