Scam tax department don't fall for it.
I did get a call from this number and found a message on my answering machine. The male voice speaking slowly with non-Australian accent identified himself as Sims and said he was working for the ATO - Australian Taxation Office. He then carried on that the nature of the call was to let me know that a legal action was raised against me due to a tax fraud. He then left this number and requested a call back to discuss the matter further. It definitely sounded like a scam.
After an extended pause an automated voice said Ron Watson from the Australia Taxation Office Legal Division based in Sydney was calling as someone has put in a taxation fraud claim against me and to please call (02) 6152 8613 to discuss the matter before it goes to court and have a warrant for my arrest. I call complete BS. Do a Google search, it's a scam!
A scam. Garbled phone message purporting to be from ATO. I work for ATO, I know they do not discuss nature of call until they have done proof of identity check. No way would they leave such info in a recorded message.
