I just received a voice message from this number threatening legal action for tax avoidance and tax evasion. I rang the number back and got some guy with a strong accent who wanted my TFN or my name. It was scary. I hate scammers!

Sounded as though it was computer generated... Some half wit saying we had been sent documents that had been returned unsigned and that our phone no was under surveillance.. To ring no back or get our lawyer to call.... Its confusing as to just what these people expect to gain. I guess it would worry old people who believe what they are told.. These people as the lowest form of humanity they should be hunted down and made pay for the stress they cause. Definite scam. This "John Matthews" has a foreign accent, which doesn't make a scam, but can't even get the name of the organisation right... Department of Public AND ProsecutionS. Pretty sure someone genuine would know who they work for!
Message on phone (automated) says "ATO and CDPP (commonwealth director of public prosecution) stating we had a legal tax evasion case and we or our solicitor had to call 02-61528611". first thing we did was think "RUBBISH scammer" and looked up the No. I would not waste time and money calling. As someone says, as if ATO would do such a thing.
I send all my scammer emails to the real ATO IT people too.

Just got a call from the same number with the same message from a "John Matthews" from the ATO. Definitely a scam, the voice was computer generated.
Got home and listened to the answering machine with a message saying we had a legal law suite under our name and we needed to call urgently. It definitely sounded like a scam. As if the ATO would call on a landline requesting a callback!! Just wondering if anyone actually rang the number to see what they were after.

They call saying you are being sued by ago. Call real ago and were told not being sued and this is not an ago number.
Our clients are receiving calls from this number (I am an accountant). I rang the number back and yelled at the person who answered.
2 of my clients just got the call, I heard the message and clearly a fraud. I rang the number and apparently the only ATO office in Australia is in the ACT.

Claiming to be from ATO saying you owe ATO money and criminal charges are being laid against you for tax evasion. They could only provide your initial. I rang the ATO letting them know about this scam.
This number and 02 61528672 are scams. I called and was given a plausable story as to why I owed $7.298 for errors on tax returns from 2008 to 2012. Thet wanted to know the deatails on my criminal lawyer as attempted service of documents at my home had failed. I would have been very concerned if my name was really BOND, Jim but it ain't. BEWARE !
This number rang me saying he was an ATO Lawyer. Said that unless I paid $3.820 in unpaid taxes immediately into an account the Police would be called and I would end up with a Criminal Record.
When my husbqand got onto the phone demanding answers he hung up. Caller sounded like he was Indian or Pakistani.
