I received a missed call on March 1, 2023, with no message left. When I called the number back on March 2, 2023, an automated voice informed me to "please check the number and try again," suggesting that the number has been disconnected. A voice message was left, claiming to be from the ATO in Canberra. The speaker, who identified himself as Kevin Parker, said I was under investigation for tax evasion. I recognized this as a scam because all of my correspondence regarding taxation is with my accountant, who has informed me that this type of scam has been circulating for years.
