    Received call from 0364372709 about pension back money and was told to ring Canberra 0261452664 and given an application number. The call was from a woman with an Australian accent.

    02 6145 2664 was given to me to ring as part of a Centrelink hoax. The caller was Asian and alerted me to the fact that I was due for back pay to my pension. I do not receive a pension and do not intend ringing the number.

    This number is not associated with the Department of Human Services. I have received a call from an Aged Pension customer also in South Australia with the caller stating they are contacting regarding an arrears payment of their pension payments due to changes made by Government. This call was not from DHS and is most definitely a scam. If you receive a call and have doubt, call the national '13' number for Centrelink to confirm if the contact was from Centrelink.

    3/3/16 Received a call from a scammer with an Indian accent saying they were calling from the Dept of Human Services - Centrelink in regards to pension payment errors and a few thousand dollars owed in back payments. They gave this phone number to ring them in Canberra to confirm the information they had given. This number had an automated welcome to the Dept of Human Services and asked for a customer access number the same way the real one does. It sounded legitimate. Then after providing numbers supplied in the first call it went through to another person with an Indian accent. They wanted a Western Union form filled out to begin the process of claiming the underpaid pension amounts. The call was ended before they were able to obtain any financial benefit. The real Department of Human Services confirmed this was a scam and not from them. The ACCC were advised but were not interested in doing anything about this phone number that the scammers are using to help them sound legitimate to to "verify" who they are.

    Be very careful with anyone calling and asking you to call this phone number. End the call as soon as possible and don't provide any personal information like pension numbers, bank details, account balances, etc.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
