I also received a call today telling me to call back on this no.02 6140 3466. Saying same as above court case against me for tax avoidance. Scam of some sort.
Also received a recorded message along the same lines as the comments below, contacted my accountant who said it is a scam. ATO will only contact by mail first in the event of any investigations. Also be aware of scam e-mails that I have received about an estimated return that has been allegedly calculated by the ATO even though my tax return was allready completed. Major scam, do not respond as they are looking for identity information for identity theft.
We also received a message telling us to call (back) number 02 6140 3466. A woman accused us of "tax avoidance", said there will be issued a "warrant for arrest", and that the "registered address was under surveillance".
Similar message also received later, saying that was a recording, urging us to call number 03 6121 4129.
I do not know what numbers these calls were made from, only giving here the two numbers each recorded message was asking to call back "to avoid legal action".
The caller didn't say who the message was for, no name, no address. I bet they do not have this information and are phishing for it. Do not call back.
My mum recived a message saying she was being taken to court for tax evasion and fraud and to ring this number. Obviously a scam.
The caller from this number made an accusation of tax fraud. I do not pay tax as I am a pensioner and the instructions given used language that was not familiar to me. I suspected that this was a fraudulent call and hung up. The caller used a foreign accent.
