Got a robotic call from Kelly watson from the Australian tax office today.Scam!!
Got the same recorded call three days in a row. American accent. Sounded fake anyway. I didn't ring back because I thought the scam might be to charge people for phone calls at an exorbitant rate. Thank you to all posters above for drawing attention to this.
Has a message from midnight then another one at 9.06am from Kelly Watson from the ATO to call back on 284168037, I did call and could hardly hear the man on the other end. He claimed to be from the ATO, I told him I couldn't hear him and I would call back later, he tried to engage me again saying he was from the ATO, I hung up and researched Kelly Watson, ATO and found this. Total scam most likely.
An automated message rang my landline saying "This is Kelly Watson calling from the Tax Office. An error has been identified in a previous tax filing and to call them back". This is obviously a scam. Don't call the phone number they state back as you will probably get charged absorbent rates for the call. Just hang up.
Don't ring them back! Totally scam.
This American "Kelly Watson from Australian Taxation Office" kept harassing me for two days. At least 3 times a day, leaving messages on BOTH my mobile and land-line! Somewhere the government databases must have been compromised, because I never leave both the mobile number and land-line with any private enterprises or charities.
They said they are from ATO too. I got the name from the voice messages. Their name is Kelly Watson. But a lady answered my call named John Smith (now wondering). They are really scam.
Yes, I have had about 7 messages in the last 24 hours. I just ring this number and give them constant grief. They soon hang up, but is sure good fun to give them pay back!!
Received several automated voicemail messages over last few days from this robotic sounding "Kelly" about tax filing with the ATO problem. Have also reported it to Scamwatch (a government monitor of scams by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) . Unfortunately the Australian Tax Office website only has capacity to report attempted e-mail scams not phone scams although there is a 1 800 008 540 telephone number to report phone scamsand they will record the information.
Nine recorded message ATO scam calls to my mobile today from this number! I've had contact with the (real) ATO recently so it's either coincidence, ATO staff selling client phone numbers or (worse) their database has been compromised. The number calling is: 261 00 3404 Watchout!!
We have received 5 messages in the last 12 hours with the same recorded message but won't return it as why would the ATO have a message like that.
