I received a phone call from 02 6100 3041 today and a voicemail left on my message bank. The person claimed that they were from the Australian Taxation Office and that they needed to verify my account details and credit card details. They said it was to do with a tax fraud and an affidavit in my name and not to ignore the message because it can end up very messy with legal bills. I have been working since 1987 and never have I received a phone call from the tax office to verify my bank account details. So I told him where to go and I told him I knew it was a spam.

I received this afternoon an automated voice message from someone proclaiming to be from the ATO.

I was told not to ignore this important message & it referecned an ‘’affidavit in place relating to tax fraud in my name.’’.

The language tone within the recording sounded something like a Philippine accept, not that this matters these days in Gov Deptartmets.

Out of curiosity I phoned back 02 6100 3041, as requested.

The person who answered identified himself as James Martinez – from ATO, fluent in english with with a notabe accent - possibly Asian.

I then asked how I could help.

He said the ATO need to update my debit & credit card details.

I challenged this immediately, asking how I am able to know for sure who he actually was.

He then got defensive & verified my email address (which was correct).

Then said he'd send an sms & email to verify my bank details as soon as I provided them to him.

I asked why he was asking about my banking details…when the voice recording mentioned tax fraud.

He hung up immediately.

I have been receiving numerous calls from this source about tax evasion. Obviously it is a spam number with a prerecorded message, and reflecting all comments from above. How do I get rid of this caller?

What other extension is "it" using?

I was called by this number today and also last week. A recorded announcement said I had tax fraud issues, and pending litigation, and I should return their call urgently but by a registered attorney.

I did as requested, heard an international dial tone, and a "John McLean from ATO" answered with an obvious East Asian accent. I asked where he was from, and he replied "None of your business", and when I pressed further received the reply "F*** you F***er, sonofabitch.".
