In today's digital age, fraudulent calls are rampant, and one such suspicious number that has surfaced is 02 5612 0332. Classified as a scam number, it has been linked to a deceptive scheme involving fake visa charges.

According to user reports, the scammers operating from this number employ a manipulative tactic, using an automated recorded message that claims there has been a fraud attempt on your account. The message typically tells victims they need to press specific numbers to either report or accept a supposed charge of $1099.99. Frightened and uncertain, many unintentionally connect to a representative, who may not only be confused but also may not even speak English fluently.

This style of scam, known as a phishing scam, innocently lures individuals into believing they are rectifying a problem regarding their banking credentials. It exploits fears regarding account safety, leveraging an atmosphere of urgency that pressures victims into responding swiftly without thinking critically about the consequences.

In this particular case, a user reported pressing the number '7' to report the scam and unexpectedly connected to a male voice who sounded confused and was conversing in Hindi. Feeling suspicious, the user questioned whether he was affiliated with Scamwatch, to which the operator promptly hung up. This experience confirms a common pattern: once engagements become adversarial or insightful, scammers tend to disengage quickly.

When encountering calls from 02 5612 0332 or similar numbers, it’s crucial to remember a few important guidelines:

  • Do not engage: If the call attempts to gain personal information, hang up immediately.
  • Report the number: Use platforms like Reverseau to warn others and seek information about suspicious calls.
  • Verify independently: Always check your banking account directly without clicking any linked prompts in messages.

Fake visa charge scam call... Recorded english voice advising of a $1099.99 suspected fraud entry to your account. Press 1 to report it,2 to accept. Repeatedly I pressed 7 and it eventually connected me to someone (male) sounding confused muttering in hindi. I asked him if he was working for scamwatch as I pressed 7 to report a scam. Immediately they hung up.
