Understanding the Scam Behind 02 5133 9873

The phone number 02 5133 9873 / 0251339873 has recently caught the attention of users who report it as a potential scam. Two significant reviews from 12th and 14th May 2025 detail unsettling experiences indicating that this number is involved in identity fraud and financial impersonation.

Analysis of User Experiences

The first review highlights a missed call from the number, after which the caller returned to an automated, garbled message that sounded unprofessional and dubious. This would typically raise red flags, especially given the context that it was supposedly from 'City Canberra'. Official government agencies typically maintain clear and concise messaging without reliance on automated systems.

The second review sheds more light on the deceptive nature of this number. The call was connected via a VOIP service, usually allowing for anonymity. The caller, a woman with a foreign accent, requested personal information by addressing her target with their name, likely harvested from data leaks. Notably, the conversation revolved around investments in gold—an increasingly common theme among scams aimed at financial exploitation.

Classification and Risks

Based on these insights, we classify 02 5133 9873 / 0251339873 as a scam number involved in identity fraud and investment scams. The characteristics of the call, including the foreign accent, the suspicious nature of the inquiry regarding financial investments, and the random connection method, lead to an understanding that this number is potentially a front for more extensive scams aimed at gaining personal information for malicious purposes.

  • If you receive a call from 02 5133 9873 / 0251339873, do not engage with the caller.
  • Do not provide any personal or financial information, regardless of how convincing they may sound.

**Bleep bloop** of VOIP whatsapp connection sound.

Passed to an Indian woman whom stated my name [probably gathered from previous data leak:(]

Says she is with some financial companies investing in GOLD.

Asks if I have investments in gold.

This is either an identity fraud or impersonation scam.

I missed this call and was inclined to call it back as it was designated City Canberra thinking it could be Official or Tax.

The answer tape was a scratchy auto message in a foreign accent which cut out in 30 seconds. Certainly didn’t sound like official Canberra business.
