Bank Impersonation Scam Reports for 02 5114 6726

Two contributors have reported calls from 02 5114 6726 (also written as 0251146726) impersonating bank employees. The callers used sophisticated social engineering tactics, including addressing victims by full name and referencing specific transaction amounts to establish credibility before requesting sensitive personal information.

The most detailed report about 0251146726 describes a caller claiming to be a bank employee who cited two fraudulent transactions totalling $2,500 (citing Uber and Amazon charges) and warned that the account could be compromised. The caller then requested the victim's date of birth, employment details, and personal identity information under the guise of "locking down" the account. When the caller instructed the victim to delete their banking app as part of the supposed lockdown process, the victim recognised the request as a red flag and hung up immediately.

Both contributors who received calls from 02 5114 6726 emphasised how convincing the callers sounded. The first report notes the caller "sound[ed] very convincing," while the second details how the impersonator kept the victim talking casually to extract more personal information, creating a false sense of legitimacy.

What Callers from 02 5114 6726 Claim

Callers from 02 5114 6726 specifically reference recent fraudulent transactions on the victim's account. In the detailed report, the caller named exact transaction amounts ($1,000 and $1,500) and merchant names (Uber and Amazon) that sounded plausible to the victim. The caller then created urgency by claiming the account was compromised and needed immediate action.

The scammer requested multiple pieces of personal information during the call: date of birth, employment details, and general identity information. Critically, the caller from 0251146726 instructed the victim to delete their legitimate banking app, claiming this action was necessary to "lock down" the account. This request is a major indicator of fraudulent intent, as legitimate banks never ask customers to delete their official apps.

One contributor reported that the caller maintained a casual, conversational tone throughout the call, designed to keep the victim engaged and lower their guard while extracting information.

Report Patterns and Timing

Both reports were submitted within three weeks of each other (24 January and 11 February 2026), suggesting this number may be actively used for ongoing scam attempts. The second report about 02 5114 6726 explicitly mentions multiple unauthorised login attempts on the victim's bank account, visible in the banking app's activity log, indicating the scammers were attempting to access the account even as the call continued.

One contributor received the call and answered it directly, while the other also engaged with the caller. Both victims reported the number to their banks and took immediate protective action, though only one victim explicitly filed a police report.

SCAM ALERT! Person pretending to be an employee of my.

Bank. Addressed me by my full name first, so seemed legit. Then said I had.

Two unexpected transactions and my account could be compromised. Said like transactions.

For big amounts $1000 and $1500 with Uber and Amazon. Took my details to “lock down my.

Account”.

Took date of birth, what I do for work, chatted with me very casually getting more.

Info about my identity and kept me talking. Then, told me I needed to delete my bank app for the lockdown to be effective. As SOON as I deleted it I knew I’m being.

Hacked this is not legitimate.

So I hung up on them and ran to my second phone which still.

Had my bank app on it. They were unable to get any money from me, but made.

Multiple attempts as I could see in the activity session section of my bank app.

I called my bank instantly and locked down my accounts, and also filed a police report.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do scammers know my full name and details when they call from 02 5114 6726?

The caller from 02 5114 6726 (0251146726) may have obtained your information from a previous data breach, public records, or by purchasing compiled contact lists. One contributor noted the caller already knew their full name and suburb before mentioning specific transactions. However, this does not make the call legitimate - banks will never cold-call you claiming fraud and requesting you to delete your app.

Why would a scammer ask me to delete my banking app when calling from 02 5114 6726?

Deleting your banking app is a critical red flag. The caller from 0251146726 requested this specifically to remove your ability to verify account activity in real-time. Once the app is deleted, the scammer can attempt unauthorised access without you seeing login alerts. A legitimate bank will never ask you to delete official security apps.

What if 02 5114 6726 mentions specific transactions like Uber or Amazon charges?

Mentioning specific merchant names and amounts makes the scammer sound more credible, but it does not verify their identity. The caller from 02 5114 6726 (0251146726) may reference plausible transactions to trick you into believing they work for your bank. Always hang up and call your bank directly using the number on your card to verify any claimed fraudulent activity.

Should I answer calls from 02 5114 6726 to confirm if it's my bank?

No. Do not answer calls from 0251146726 with the intention of verifying who is calling. Scammers can manipulate caller ID information. Instead, hang up and call your bank directly using the official number on their website or your bank card. This ensures you contact your actual bank, not the scammer.

What happened to the person who gave information to the caller from 02 5114 6726?

The contributor who spoke with the caller from 0251146726 provided their date of birth and employment details before recognising the request to delete their banking app as fraudulent. They immediately hung up and checked their banking app, where they found multiple unauthorised login attempts. They locked down their accounts, contacted their bank, and filed a police report. No money was stolen because they acted quickly.

Is 02 5114 6726 a real bank phone number?

No. The number 02 5114 6726 (0251146726) is allocated to a telecommunications provider (Primus Telecommunications) in the ACT and is being used for scam calls impersonating banks. Banks do not initiate calls about fraud using random local service numbers. If your bank contacts you about suspicious activity, always hang up and call them back using the number on your official banking card.
