This number has been reported by users as part of a disturbing trend involving scams, specifically targeting individuals under the guise of legitimate businesses. In this case, the number is linked to fraudulent claims regarding McAfee antivirus subscriptions.

The McAfee Subscription Scam Explained

Reports indicate that calls initiated from this number typically follow a well-known scam pattern. Victims have received emails claiming to be from McAfee, stating that their subscription renewal is due, often mentioning a hefty charge of $389.99. The email provokes urgency, instructing recipients to contact the cancellation department of McAfee by calling 02 5110 2207 / 0251102207.

Upon calling, one victim reported speaking to an individual named "Mike Jordan", whose inability to competently address customer's queries raised immediate red flags. Handling Suspicious Calls

So, what should you do if you encounter this number? Here are some strategies to manage potential scams:

  • Do not share personal information: Legitimate companies do not ask for sensitive data over the phone in response to unsolicited queries.
  • Hang up and verify: Contact the company directly using the official number provided on their website to confirm any subscription or account matters.
  • Report the scam: Notify relevant authorities, such as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), to help combat telephone and cyber fraud.
  • Utilise Reverseau: To identify the origin of unknown phone numbers, consider using a reverse phone lookup service, which offers insights into who called you in Australia.

Ultimately, it's crucial to stay vigilant and informed. This scenario serves as a reminder to remain cautious when unsolicited calls or emails arrive, especially those claiming to involve payments or subscriptions. If you suspect foul play, reporting these numbers can significantly help protect others from falling prey to such scams.

Got an email saying form McAfee Antivirus saying I need to renew my subscription and will be automatically charged to my account which is $389.99 and to call this number 02 5110 2207 (cancellation department) to cancel. I called this number to check about this and inform that I haven't subscribed to this. The guy who says he's Mike Jordan:) doesn't sound right for the job as he does not know how to answer my queries. Then he put me on hold when he noticed I was asking too many questions. Certainly, is a scam!
