Debt Impersonation Reports for 02 4875 9187

Two contributors have flagged calls from 02 4875 9187 (also written as 0248759187) for suspicious behaviour. One report describes a clear impersonation scam where the caller claimed to represent 'The Australian Federal Finance Debt Recovery', a fictional organisation. The contributor noted the caller had vague information about an old company liquidation and used this to fish for personal details. The caller's accent indicated a Brazilian origin, adding to the red flags about legitimacy.

The second report from a Goulburn NSW resident describes an unsettling interaction where the caller used the contributor's name, then made an ominous statement ('you don't want to know') before hanging up. This pattern suggests 02 4875 9187 may be part of a broader scam operation targeting Australians with personalised information harvesting tactics.

What Callers from 02 4875 9187 Claim

One contributor reported that the caller from 02 4875 9187 claimed affiliation with 'The Australian Federal Finance Debt Recovery' and referenced an old, unused email address. The caller was intentionally vague about the supposed debt, mentioning only that a company in liquidation allegedly owed money. Rather than providing clear details upfront, the caller asked probing questions designed to extract personal information from the contributor.

The contributor who received the call from 0248759187 noted the strategy was manipulative - the caller would share minimal information while attempting to verify the contributor's identity and personal details. This is a hallmark of identity theft and fraud operations that use fabricated debt claims as a pretext.

Report Patterns and Caller Behaviour

Both reports about 02 4875 9187 show deliberate attempts to extract or verify personal information. In the first incident, the caller from 0248759187 attempted to gather details by asking vague questions and waiting for the contributor to fill in blanks. When the contributor questioned the caller and gave evasive responses instead, they were able to identify inconsistencies in the story.

The second report demonstrates a more aggressive approach - the caller used the contributor's name immediately, then made a threatening comment before disconnecting. This suggests the scammer had already harvested at least the contributor's name from a data source, possibly from the liquidated company mentioned in the first report or from a larger data breach affecting multiple Australians.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 'The Australian Federal Finance Debt Recovery' a real organisation?

No. A contributor who received a call from 02 4875 9187 reported the caller claimed to represent this organisation, but it does not exist. No legitimate Australian government or licensed debt recovery company uses this name. If you receive a call from 0248759187 making this claim, it is a scam. Always verify debt claims by contacting the original creditor directly using their official phone number from your records or a bill.

Why did the caller from 02 4875 9187 ask vague questions instead of providing clear details?

The contributor who received the call from 02 4875 9187 (0248759187) observed this was a deliberate tactic. By asking vague questions and waiting for the contributor to fill in details, the scammer gathers personal information while creating the illusion of legitimacy. If the contributor contradicts themselves or provides details the scammer doesn't have, the scammer can refine their story. Legitimate debt collectors always provide clear, specific information upfront.

How did the caller from 0248759187 know my name?

One report about 02 4875 9187 shows the caller already had the contributor's name on file before calling. This suggests the scammer has accessed a data source such as a company liquidation list, employee records, customer database, or a broader data breach. The fact that the caller from 0248759187 personalised the call with your name makes it more convincing, but it is not a sign of legitimacy - it indicates your information has been compromised.

What should I do if I already gave information to the caller from 02 4875 9187?

If you disclosed personal information during a call from 02 4875 9187 (0248759187), take these steps: (1) Contact your bank and credit card providers immediately and inform them of potential fraud; (2) Check your credit report for unauthorised activity; (3) Consider placing a fraud alert with credit reporting agencies; (4) Report the incident to ReportCyber (cyber.gov.au) and Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au); (5) Monitor your email and phone for follow-up scam attempts using the information you disclosed.

Why did the second caller from 02 4875 9187 make a threatening comment and hang up?

The Goulburn NSW contributor reported receiving a call from 02 4875 9187 where the caller used their name, then said 'you don't want to know' before hanging up. This could indicate the scammer was testing whether the number was active and whether the contributor would engage further. Alternatively, the scammer may have determined the contributor was not a suitable target (e.g., too cautious or unwilling to provide information) and moved on to easier victims. Either way, calls from 0248759187 with threatening undertones should be blocked immediately.

Is 02 4875 9187 connected to a company liquidation I should know about?

The contributor who received the call from 02 4875 9187 reported the caller vaguely referenced a company in liquidation that supposedly owed money. However, the caller provided no specific company name, debt amount, or evidence. This is a common tactic used by scammers - they reference real or fictional liquidations to create a false sense of legitimacy. If you believe a legitimate liquidated company owes you money, contact the liquidator directly using contact information from official sources, not from callers claiming to represent 0248759187 or similar numbers.
