    Phoned. Heard a brief snippet of a human and then it hung up. Perhaps my answering with a business name spooked them.

    I got a call from this number. I don't know anyone from this area so I let my message bank kick in. When I rang back a little later it was unavailable. Very obviously a scammer.

    Yep a scammer that is "spoofing" a Blue Mountains NSW local number from their Indian call centre.

    This number rang my unlisted silent number. Obviously the unwanted scammer isn’t smart enough to know that.

    Just got a call- it was "Kevin" speaking in an Indian accent telling me he was calling about the accident I'd supposedly had. I told him I might've had an accident - he went silent & hung up. I could hear what sounded like a call centre in the background. Tried to re-dial the number, but it cuts off.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
