Understanding the Scam Behind 02 4587 4587

The phone number 02 4587 4587 / 0245874587 has garnered attention for all the wrong reasons, with users reporting it as a scam call posing as a representative of Telstra, one of Australia's largest telecommunications providers. Based on various customer experiences, this number has been associated with a fraudulent scheme attempting to deceitfully gain access to personal computers under the guise of resolving supposed internet problems.

What Kind of Scam Is It?

Reviews indicate that callers from this number consistently present themselves with strong foreign accents, claiming that you have a computer issue that needs immediate attention. They typically suggest that your internet connection has been compromised, and they coax you into "fixing" the problem by providing access to your device. This type of scam is often referred to as a tech support scam, where scammers prey on your worries about cybersecurity and devices. Their main objective is to extract personal information or gain remote access control to your system.

Red Flags to Identify the Scam

  • Impersonation of a Trusted Company: The callers claim to be from Telstra, but legitimate companies will never ask for sensitive information over the phone in this manner.
  • Unusual Caller Behaviour: Scammers often exhibit high-pressure tactics, insisting that you act immediately to prevent disconnection—this is a common characteristic of their approach.
  • Foreign Accents and Poor Connections: Many users have reported a lack of clarity during the calls, suggesting unreliable communication lines, contributing to suspicion about their authenticity.

Steps to Handle Calls from This Number

If you receive a call from 02 4587 4587 / 0245874587 or a similar number, it is vital to follow these guidelines:

  • Do Not Engage: Hang up the call politely. Engaging could lead to further calls or attempts to manipulate you.
  • Verify Assertions: If you're ever unsure about a call's legitimacy, directly contact your service provider using official channels to verify any claims.
  • Report the Number: Reporting the number to local authorities or telecommunications regulators can help mitigate this scam's spread.

Contant phone call. When I decided to answer a foreign woman claimed to be from telstra and that we needed to log in and fix our internet as we'd been hacked. At least 10-12 calls over the last 2 days.

Just got a call from this number. It is another scam. Foreign woman claiming to be from Telstra. She told me that my internet would be disconnected for 15 days from tomorrow because I failed to act regarding foreigners accessing my computer. "So just turn your computer on and I'll tell you how to fix it." I then asked why it would be disconnected for 15 days if I could fix it now. She just kept repeating the same thing about logging onto my computer and she'd tell me what to do. She told me some address in North Sydney when I questioned her about being from Telstra and asked for her name and number so I could call her back. She then again asked me to turn on my computer. I then hung up.

I got a call from an extremely bad connection from someone purporting to be from Telstra (very strong accent) about my computer connectiom. I told her I didn't have a computer so she must have the wrong number and hung up.... I haven't logged any faults with my internet provider so they wouldn't know that a problem existed unless you did.

I was called by this number and spoke to a VERY foreign sounding woman who purported to be with Telstra. She said that I should turn on my computer and she would instruct me on how to fix it as it had been hacked. I hung up on her. I rang the number back and got the "this number is disconnected.....".
