    They called my DO-NOT-CALL number, got the answering machine, and left no message. I do not call back.

    Their caller-ID would be in Australia. I don't believe it. I believe they have added a digit to their caller-ID, which makes it look like it is Australia.

    0245478138, Indians reporting there is a problem with your windows computer, They have detected illegal activity on your internet connection, Bla, bla, bla.

    Said they would have to cut connection off if I did not follow their instructions.

    I played along for a while, when I was asked to use the command function from the start bar and to type in commands it was time to stop.

    They called back numerous times being a pain in the ass.

    I received a call on my landline phone from this number. I could hear someone shouting in the background, then they hung up. No idea who it was.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
