    Highly suspect this is a criminal/scammer. This no. Rang our landline yesterday, and I didn't answer as I didn't recognise no. And we've been getting too many scam callers, especially recently from male with foreign accent claiming to be from Telstra claiming a fault with my internet ... [my ISP is NOT Telstra]. There was no message left. I rang back and got a male voice: "The no. You have dialled is not in service. Please check the no. And try again." I did so and each time I got the same message. This also happened previously when I called back the supposed Telstra caller, who somehow seems to find different numbers to call from.

    Have had number of calls from "02" area code. Decided to 'answer' most recent one... They hung up! I assume scam robo call given that delay when call is answered.

    Why why why can these calls continue at the rate they do?

    On average 1 - 2 a day?

    Most recent run from 'private' number is "you have had an accident"...yeah, right. As if relevant MAC's would be calling at random!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
