    The lady rang this morning and asked for Bill from IT. I said to the caller that Bill is not in IT but in actual fact the manager of this place and she rudely hangup. Tried to call her back to tell her off but the number is automatically diverted to a recorded message to leave message on ext 157.

    This is definitely a scam. Can we report this to Telstra or the telecommunication Ombudsman so this type of calls will be completely banned?

    Any opinion people?

    Several calls immediately after each other but only rings twice then ends. Finally spoke to someone and said they were from the National Broadband Network and wanted to confirm number of mobile phones at the premise as there may be disruption to the towers in our area. Then said they would be sending a letter to confirm and had my address details already. Bit weird.

    Has called our office a couple of times and says her name is Brooke and won't leave a message. Not rude, just vague and a nuisance.

    Had a call 29/6/17 she was quite rude. When I tried to see where she was calling from Brooke wouldn't answer my questions, instead asked me if I would like to know what colour underwear she was wearing.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
