    This number called (Feb 2022) and upon receiving no answer proceeded to leave the following text message with no inclusion whatsoever of who was calling "99 cents and the same will be debited from your account automatically. If you want to cancel this. And press one. To claim for refunding (?) funding (?). Press(?) two." Message2Text.

    Correlated to this I have been receiving a lot of text messages at all hours of the day saying my parcel could not be delivered... Open the link..... We need to tell our MPs we want the same information protection laws afforded EU citizens!

    Person rings a mobile saying they are eBay. That there is an amount of $299 or something, the recipient of the call has never used eBay. I rang the number back from my landline, he says the same type of thing, quotes the last 4 digits of the phone I am calling from. He indicates he knows who I am by the last 4 digits. I say how do you know who I am and that he called another number and that person never used eBay. He hangs up.

    Recorded message played when I answered, "confirming that I had purchased an item from eBay for $299.99". I was told to press 1 to cancel the order. I hung up and rang the number back. Someone answered and said, "thank you for calling eBay".

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
