I received a call from this number (02) 5016 2629, which appeared to originate from Albury. The caller informed me that I needed to call back to cancel an eBay gift card worth $299.33 that I supposedly purchased, otherwise, it would be charged to my account. The odd thing is, I have not bought anything from eBay.
When I answered the call, an Indian lady responded after I asked, "How are you, ma'am?" I said, "Good, thank you," and then she abruptly hung up on me. When I tried to call the number back, I received a message saying the number was disconnected.
The callers pretended to be from PayPal and used a robocall to notify me that $299 would be deducted from my account, which is likely a scam.
They left a voicemail saying I had purchased a $299 gift card for the App Store. Initially, I thought my son might have made an unauthorized purchase, but it turned out to be a scam. I confronted them and told them to leave me alone.
They left a voicemail stating that $9.99 would be debited from my account. I haven't placed any orders or signed up for any subscriptions at that price, so I blocked this number.
I received a call from someone claiming to follow up on a confirmation email regarding a random eBay gift card for $299. This caller clearly was trying to scam me because eBay does not make such calls to customers. They mentioned that money would be charged to my account, which seemed highly suspicious. Please be vigilant and do not fall for such scams — I think they are based in Newcastle.
