    Answered, and a computer/robotic voice said I purchased something online and they are going to withdraw $299 from my bank account. I hung up before I heard the rest.

    Wanted access to my eBay account details to rectify an unauthorised payment of $200 for a JB Hifi gift card.

    Would stay with me while I downloaded "a claims form" and sorted out a refund. Tried 4 times to persuade me not to check my own eBay details independently which raised my suspicions. I just had to hang up in the end. Polite, but insistent and VERY convincing.

    Experienced SCAMMER and accomplished THIEF. Take care.

    Worst scammer - telling you that they will debit your account but in the voice message the phone number is overseas but on the missed call they are based in Newcastle. Be Aware.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
