Woman called saying she was from cryptocurrency firm saying I had funds from a company who closed for return but would need to set up a crypto account to return the funds.
The caller who had an accent similar to an Indian said that he was from a Fraud Investigation Unit. He did not immediately name himself or the company he worked for. He said I had deposited $200 in a cryptocurrency account from 2 years ago and that this account had been accessed and that there had been suspicious withdrawals from the account. He said that my phone number was a point of contact on that account and asked if I remember depositing that amount on a crypto platform? The name of which I couldn't catch because of his accent. I said I hadn't nor do I recall doing that. I asked what company he was with. Once again I didn't catch what he said even though I asked him to repeat it. At no point did he give me his name and it sounded like he was in a call centre with a lot of other conversations going on in the background. In the end he said he would close down the account.
When I rang the number back after the call had ended I was told by a recorded voice that it was not in service. The call location showed as Maitland NSW.
