The number 02 4017 1012 has been reported as a scam impersonating the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), threatening arrest for alleged tax issues. If you receive a call from this number, avoid response and report it immediately.

Understanding the Threat of 02 4017 1012

The phone number 02 4017 1012 has garnered alarming reports from users across Australia, categorising it firmly as a scam. Traders in deceit have been using this number to impersonate the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), aiming to instil fear with threats of arrest due to alleged tax-related misconduct. Let's delve into the concerning details surrounding this number and explore your best course of action should you encounter this unwelcome caller.

What Users Experienced

Reports from multiple users on the same day highlight a consistent pattern; all described receiving a robotic voice automated message warning them of impending arrest unless they contacted the number back. A significant red flag is the misuse of law enforcement identity, which is a common tactic among scammers seeking to create a sense of urgency and fear.

  • The recorded calls vary slightly in phrasing but essentially deliver a similar menacing message, claiming the victim has unresolved tax issues that could lead to an arrest warrant.
  • Many users took it upon themselves to return the call only to discover individuals on the other end, primarily sounding unprofessional and operating from script, strikingly different from any legitimate ATO communication.
  • Others pointed out the absence of concrete identifying information, such as a police station or specific officer name, which ought to be present in any genuine legal communication.

Determine Legitimate Calls from Scams

Whenever a number like 02 4017 1012 claims to be from a government department or law enforcement, it is crucial to approach with scepticism:

  • Verify the source: Legitimate communications from government agencies will provide clear identifying information. Never trust a threatening call without confirmation.
  • Trust your instincts: If something feels off—discernible accents, robotic voices, and high-pressure tactics—it likely is a scam.
  • Report suspicious activity: Authorities, including local law enforcement, should be notified of potential scams, helping to prevent further victimisation.

Final Thoughts

Phone number 02 4017 1012 serves as an important warning sign for Australians. Scam! Pre-recorded message of a male with an American accent stating the phone number and saying to call them back or an arrest warrant will be issued. No name or police station left as to who they are and the number when searched doesn't even come up. Also this number has only been registered and immediate family has it only.

Won't be wasting my time on calling them back but will be reporting it to the actual lical police that there is an individual impersonating law enforcement.

Left me a voicemail (automated)saying that I was going to be arrested if I don't call them back. Called them back and are indians. Stated they are the taxation office, I gave them the wrong last name and address and they believed me and continued the call. Could 100% tell they were reading from paper.
