    Received a call from the same number with the Indian accent guy. Extremely polite. However as my mum was hit by a bus a few months ago I didn't know if it was a scam or not. He knew all the details - the date of the accident, it was a school bus, mum went to hospital, my mum's name etc but he wanted the registration of the bus. I was "on alert" then and told him to ring the police if he needed any other details. He said thank you and hung up.

    I just received a call from 0240170360 at 1039 3July. Im absolutely sick of numbers I don't know, phoning me. I never answered as I only have 2 people from interstate that I know PLUS my number is a SILENT NUMBER plus 'DO NOT CALL'. I blame the Federal Gov for this. They are the ones that have to stop all these calls PLUS if I have both of the above with my phone, why in the blazes do I even have to put up with flaming CHARITIES of any kind. If I want to donate I will but I don't want to be hounded by ANY GROUP AT ALL. I wish all these groups, companies, charities etc would just rack off. Thats the reason I got a silent number for in the first place. I pay for that supposED privalege. Go Figure.

    A male with an Indian accent called to say he was from the "Accident Assistance" something. Calling about someone having a car accident with me. Have had no accident. Obviously a scam but can't find where to report to Telstra (my service provider). Called twice in five minutes second time from 02 8006 9319.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
