Call supposedly from (02)40123545; came up on my phone as "Nelson Bay", ie NSW. Probably a spoofed number (see below).
Fake robo voice said Telstra phone service will be disconnected in two hours (it never was disconnected, see below). Accompanied by message: Press 1 for english case; press 2 for chinese case, then chinese language message.
Same thing twice yesterday (morning and afternoon). Different phone numbers came up as Bundanoon, NSW and Dungog, NSW.
Same thing two days ago. Claimed Telstra phone service about to be disconnected in 2 hours. Obviously a scam, as phone service still going strong two days later.
Chinese scam call: "For English service please press one, for Chinese service please press two".
Note: If you press 1, the call is dropped; if you press 2, you get another audio message in Chinese.
According to other reports, that message sets you up for an extortion scam, but only if you speak chinese and are gullible. Best course of action is: don't press anything, just hang up.
They (or the robots) are persistent buggers, calling twice a day for several days, using different spoofed phone numbers. Eventually they give up.
I answered a call and heard a voice recording that was breaking up badly. It sounded like the recording started before I picked up. I didn’t stay on the line and just hung up immediately.
