    I Received a call with the caller telling me I had a recent accident and they were the insurance company. Told him he can hang up as he was a scammer, which he promptly took my advise.

    I answered a call from this number. They claimed to be 'legal services', and wanted to speak to me about an accident I'd recently been in (I have not been in any accidents recently). The man speaking to me did have an Indian accent and it sounded noisy like he was in a call center.

    Received a call from this number claiming to be from some legal organisation, saying that they were calling about me being involved in a car accident. My car has not left the garage in days. Somehow they had my name, perhaps because it got leaked through the Optus data breach.

    Scammer saying it’s an insurance call. Stated broad assumptions to get an answer. Hung up when I asked when I claimed on my insurance and what my name is.

    Phoned, with my name, to talk about the ‘car accident’ I was in last year and how to claim for it. Informed I don’t have a car. Then wanted to talk about the family member who was in an accident. Wished him a good afternoon and that he’d die in a fire, like all scammers. (08) 6182 3042.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
