    HANG UP AND DO NOT TALK TO THEM. Came as missed call. Menu message said something about complaints and more can be found on our website, WITHOUT saying who they were or what website. Classic scam. I stayed on the call and they went straight into NAME? (gave them a fake one) ACCOUNT NUMBER and SECURITY CODE (gave them fake ones) then they pretended they can see my account but cannot access it, so they needed my ACCESS CARD OR CREDIT CARD number just to confirm it was me. At that point I pointed out it was an obvious scam and point by point how they were running it. Unbelievably he didn't bat an eyelid. Went straight into this is legit then hit me with the next question. WHICH ONE OF THOSE BANKS DO YOU BANK WITH (named every single major bank on the eastern seaboard) and when I told him none, he argued and then said well which bank do you think you are with, and are you have you ever been a customer of (named just about every single bank in Australia). These guys are slick, calm and relentlessly (and very cleverly) extract information. I knew it was a scam from the intro, but I can see how a lot of people would be fooled. DO NOT TALK TO THEM. If you want to see out of curiosity make absolutely sure you do not give them your real name, any real numbers. But better still just do not go there.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
