The phone number 1800 022 010 / 00022010 has recently come to the attention of many users due to numerous reports indicating it is part of a scam operation. Unfortunately, this number is linked to a fraudulent call centre, often operated by scammers based overseas.

Understanding the Scam

User reports indicate a pattern where victims receive a text message outlining a purported payment transaction. The common features of these messages include:

  • A notification of an unauthorised charge, sometimes listed as high amounts (e.g., $1499.99 or $2500 AUD).

Fake PayPal callcentre. They text you saying that a charge has been authorized for an amount (in my case $1499.99 AUD), and to call 1800 022 010 for dispute.

The call is answered instantly by an Indian callcentre pretending to be PayPal.
