    This caller didn’t answer when ringing. Towards the end of the call heard the end of a voice recording sound. Do not answer or speak when picking these calls up as they are recording voices for scams.

    Called claiming from Telstra about misuse of my IP address and visiting questionable sites. When I asked how to verify he was an employee, he quoted an ID number: TL96785.

    He wanted me to set myself up in front of a laptop but I said I was busy…

    My internet provider is not Telstra;)

    Told they were from the 'Visa and Mastercard department' and asked if had made a $800 transaction to someone in New Zealand. When I asked what company their 'department' was from, they said they were based in Melbourne even though its a QLD number. When I pressed them on which company they were from, they hung up. Scammer.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
